Environmental protection, together with the health and safety of workers and technological-production development, are key elements for the Group’s sustainable growth. Improving environmental performance is therefore an integral part of the shipbuilding development policies implemented within the individual production sites. The shipyards pursue their own improvement objectives, in particular with regard to the reduction and management of process waste, energy efficiency, environmental protection and the health and safety of workers in the use of chemical substances and products and the control of indirect environmental aspects related to the work of contractors.
The focus on energy efficiency and the results of the diagnostics carried out at all the shipyards have led to improvements in measures to improve efficiency and the introduction of cutting-edge technology. This combination has produced significant reductions in consumption and operating costs: these include the installation of photovoltaic panels and the trigeneration plant in Ancona plant for the production of electrical, thermal and cooling energy, the installation of LED lighting systems, which at the Zago plant have enabled energy savings of around 400kWh, and the achievement of ISO 14001 certification at the La Spezia and Forlì sites.
Finally, in line with new infrastructure investments, new energy-saving solutions are systematically assessed: in addition to the use of renewable energies, with particular reference to the already mentioned photovoltaic, such as the use of heat pumps instead of methane systems in the new projects.
