Some of the most precious jewels of the Italian fashion house
are here, among which stands out the Kosmos watch, the latest
arrival from the collection of Invisible Setting timepieces.
The expert hands of Geneva’s master watchmakers assembled
every component of Kosmos, the latest creation by Dolce&Gabba-
na, piece by piece: it is a watch that pays tribute to the great Leo-
nardo Da Vinci and his brilliant astronomical intuitions. Characte-
rized by an exclusive movement of its own, Kosmos combines the
rigor and precision of the mechanisms with the exquisite watch face
made of a single piece of black sapphire engraved with zodiac sym-
bols. But there is more: the miniature celestial vault is illuminated
by over three-hundred excellent-quality diamonds (seamlessly in-
laid without visible settings) studding the watch’s case, crown, and
clasp. The virtuosity of the Invisible Setting technique evokes one
of Leonardo’s most mysterious and fascinating drawings: “Il Maz-
zocchio” from the Codex Atlanticus in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana
in Milan. The mazzocchio was a type of headgear worn by wealthy
men in Tuscany during the Renaissance, which then spread across
Europe; it was a rondel made by a stiff circle covered in fabric that
then formed a hood and draped down in a tail. It can still be seen in
a few drawings and paintings from some of the great masters of the
Fifteenth century, from Da Vinci himself to Paolo Uccello and Piero
della Francesca. During the Renaissance, in fact, the shape of the
mazzocchio was considered the perfect synthesis of simplicity and
complexity. Just like the brand new Kosmos.
