On these pages, the X-ray taken of the painting ‘The Fortune Teller’ (1597) shows that Caravaggio used an already-painted canvas: below we see
a Madonna, which is rotated horizontally. We can also see the outline of her halo etched with a compass.
The diagnostic images resulting from reflectography, X-rays and macro-images were superimposed on the paintings with the help of the Bracco Group.
