Technological Excellence

A talent for research and innovation in harmony with design, aimed at ensuring maximum functionality of spaces and comfort aboard: this is part of the Ferretti Group's DNA.

Its strategy is centred on consistent and continuing innovation and improvement of the performance of its products. In 1989 this mind-set led to the creation of the Engineering division, which specializes in designing new standard vessels and researching new materials. It boasts cutting-edge technologies that are unique in the nautical arena in Italy and abroad. The opening of the Engineering division also gave the company access to the Offshore racing sector, and there the Group has brought home victories in the Class 1 Offshore World Championship in 1994 and 1997, and the European Championship in 1995 and 1997: the Company thus translated the results of technological research conducted for competitive racing into standard production. The most innovative solutions that influenced pleasure boating in that era include the tilting window between the salon and the cockpit, submerged discharge systems, and F-tdr (Ferretti trim and drag reduction). In the years to follow, air bags for anchor chains, hull windows, XFT Cross Fibre Technology, monitoring and control systems (NaviOp and Gi8) and the revolutionary ARG (Anti-Rolling Gyros) were introduced: comfort aboard is assured by a gyroscopic device that uses the movement of a rotor to reduce vessel rolling. The same level of comfort was also achieved in terms of noise emissions. Ferretti was the first shipyard to employ state-of-the-art technical approaches to bring its vessels into compliance with the ISO 14509 standard, two years before it came into effect.

Advanced Yacht Technology

In 2006, the Engineering Division was transformed into AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology), one of the world's most advanced centers for marine research and design, boasting a team of designers and technicians specialized in the continuing search for innovative product and process solutions aimed at achieving excellence and maximum reliability. The department is organized into technological areas and expertise platforms, each of which focuses on a specific aspect, such as Hull Design, Electronic Instrumentation, GFRP Composition and Structures, Technical Systems and Electronics Systems, 3D Construction Modelling, the Naval Registry, and Certifications. Each platform works collaboratively with the others on the various aspects of design to further the product development process. One of the crucial departments that AYT works with is Models and Molds, which since 2005 has boasted Poseidon, the largest 5-axis CNC machine supplied for European shipyards for building models. It uses CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to design hulls, and CAD and 3D software to design surfaces and systems. The AYT currently drives the research and development behind product engineering for all Ferretti Group products, facilitating the exchange of information and sharing of both data and experience to create a network of highly specialized expertise that supports, strengthens, and develops all Group products.

AYT's close collaboration with its technology partner companies allows it to develop increasingly innovative, customized, and exclusive systems that are the unmistakable hallmark of Ferretti Group products. Specifically, in collaboration with ZF, it developed Smart Command, with the Easy Dock and Auto Troll functions, which guarantee maximum vessel maneuverability.

Ferretti Wave Efficient

Ferretti Wave Efficient Yacht and Hybrid Propulsion

This is the framework in which Fer.WEY and Hybrid Propulsion were created. Both are Ferretti Group patents. The Fer.Wey – Ferretti Wave Efficient Yacht – hull is described as "trans-planing"; it enables yachts to cruise with excellent comfort and energy efficiency at middle-range speeds, while simultaneously reducing rolling and stern wake. This hull guarantees excellent longitudinal trim stability in the boat, without discernible changes in trim as speed changes. Hybrid Propulsion is a highly innovative system offering 5 operating modes that for the first time allows vessels longer than 20 meters to cruise in 'Zero Emission Mode'. The next innovations emerging from the collaboration with ZF are Autotrim, an automatic system that regulates surface propellers and optimizes speed, and SteerCommand & JMS, which replaces the traditional hydraulic steerage and cuts turning diameter in half.

Dual Mode Transom

DUAL MODE TRANSOM AND CONVERTIBLE TOP

Encouraged confidence from new investors in research and innovation has delivered the float-in garage, for the first time, featured on the Ferretti Yachts 960 and two new recent patents: the Dual Mode Transom (DMT), on Custom Line Navetta 28 and the Custom Line 108’ and the Convertible–Top on Riva 88’ Florida. DMT is a Ferretti Group patent that combines three crucial functions into a single system: a float-in garage, a submersible platform, and an ample beach area.

The opening system for the stern door gives access to ample storage for the tender, which can be launched or maneuvered directly, without the need for a davit, and provides an enormous beach area. The Convertible Top (C-Top) is a Ferretti Group patent that transforms an open vessel into a coupé in a single, simple motion.

Innovations
The C-Top is a single system that serves 3 functions: movable hard top on the cockpit, integrated cover for the bow dinette, and a hard top on the bow dinette area.
